Newton Youth Players has openings

There are still some openings for kids in grades 1 – 6 in the Newton Youth Players adapted summer production of the all-time favorite hit Oklahoma! with music and Lyrics by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

Young actors will work with specialists in drama, music, scenery design and choreography, culminating in a wonderful musical production. Set on a radiant summer morning in Indian Territory during the 19th century, Oklahoma! tells the love story of Laurey and Curly, touching on the conflicting interests between the cattlemen and the farmers of the wild west.

Newton Heartbreak Hill Road Race & Walk

Spring is just around the corner (yes, the snow is melting!) – and it’s time to start dusting off those running (or walking) shoes! The 23rd annual Heartbreak Hill Road Race and Family Walk is a perfect way to shake off some of that cabin fever! Every runner receives an official digital-clock time, a race medallion, goody bag and a free ticket to the pre-race pasta party at Newton City Hall on Saturday, April 18th. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place runners in each category win a trophy! There are free games and activities organized by Steve DeMasco’s Shaolin Studios of Wellesley and the Lasell College Special Events students.

Water Rising: The Impact on Humanity

Women Working for Oceans (W2O), in partnership with the New England Aquarium, will present: Water Rising: The Impact on Humanity. This event includes a special lecture at 11:00 am in the Aquarium’s Simons IMAX® Theater followed by a ticketed limited seated luncheon.

National Geographic Photographer George Steinmetz will take the audience on a photographic look at how sea level rise affects coastal communities, rich and poor, around the world. Senior Analyst, Erika Spanger-Siegfried, from the Union of Concerned Scientists, will review the basic concepts behind warming oceans, rising sea levels and human’s contribution to this critical global issue.

Women Working for Oceans, (W2O) promotes healthy and sustainable oceans through education that inspires advocacy and action. The link to the event is:

Boston based writing camp

Summer Ink, a Boston-based writing day camp for 5th through 10th grade students, has openings in several programs. Summer Ink campers play sports, participate in arts activities, take field trips throughout Boston, and write about their experiences. Trained classroom teachers help students of all levels focus their writing and find their unique voice. Two-week sessions at Simmons College in July. Scholarships available; please apply early. Seeking Street performers

Newton Highlands Village Day is a neighborhood street fair featuring live music, tasty food, rides, a fun run, prize drawings and a silent auction.  This year the Highlands Area Council is looking for a variety of local street performers to entertain event goers, including musicians/bands, dancers, jugglers, magicians, and more.

Parents, please forward to your talented teens!.   Applicants should send a description of their act along with any demo links to Steven Feinstein, sf********@******ma.gov.  Event date is June 14th from 11:00 am-3:00 pm.  Submissions due by April 17th.
