Performing Arts for Teens

Is your teen interested in theater? Do he/she care about the environment ?

During the 4 days of April Vacation, teens will write and perform a play about taking care of the environment. They’ll have the opportunity to participate in the creation of a play that they will perform at the end of the week for families and friends.

….Bring along any wild and crazy ideas! All aspects of theater-making will be available to explore, such as making costumes and sets using recycled materials

Intro to Minecraft for Adults, Tuesday, March 17th, 7:00 pm, Second floor Computer Center: Ever wondered what Minecraft is? Why it’s so popular and why your kids are always online playing it? What are maps, mods, and lags? Come to this Introduction to Minecraft to learn what all the rage is about, how you can get involved with your kids by learning to play the game, and more! Newton Heartbreak Hill Road Race & Walk

Spring is just around the corner (yes, the snow is melting!) – and it’s time to start dusting off those running (or walking) shoes! The 23rd annual Heartbreak Hill Road Race and Family Walk is a perfect way to shake off some of that cabin fever! Every runner receives an official digital-clock time, a race medallion, goody bag and a free ticket to the pre-race pasta party at Newton City Hall on Saturday, April 18th. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd place runners in each category win a trophy! There are free games and activities organized by Steve DeMasco’s Shaolin Studios of Wellesley and the Lasell College Special Events students.

Water Rising: The Impact on Humanity

Women Working for Oceans (W2O), in partnership with the New England Aquarium, will present: Water Rising: The Impact on Humanity. This event includes a special lecture at 11:00 am in the Aquarium’s Simons IMAX® Theater followed by a ticketed limited seated luncheon.

National Geographic Photographer George Steinmetz will take the audience on a photographic look at how sea level rise affects coastal communities, rich and poor, around the world. Senior Analyst, Erika Spanger-Siegfried, from the Union of Concerned Scientists, will review the basic concepts behind warming oceans, rising sea levels and human’s contribution to this critical global issue.

Women Working for Oceans, (W2O) promotes healthy and sustainable oceans through education that inspires advocacy and action. The link to the event is:

Boston based writing camp

Summer Ink, a Boston-based writing day camp for 5th through 10th grade students, has openings in several programs. Summer Ink campers play sports, participate in arts activities, take field trips throughout Boston, and write about their experiences. Trained classroom teachers help students of all levels focus their writing and find their unique voice. Two-week sessions at Simmons College in July. Scholarships available; please apply early.
