Just Think – Teens Making Smart Choices

On January 29, 2013, the PTSO and Newton North hosted an expo called "Just Think: Teens Making Smart Choices." Over 20 organizations and 30+ community exhibitors set up booths during the day and the evening so teens and families could gather valuable information about everything from driving and pedestrian safety to healthy eating, positive body image to stress reduction and mental health support.

“Talking to our teenagers about making smart choices is so important as they navigate the challenges of being a teenager in 2013,” said Newton North Principal Jen Price in a letter inviting community members to attend. “This is our attempt to stimulate these critical conversations.”

Effective Strategies To Reduce Anxiety In Children

Workshop will teach participants about classroom and home interventions for children (in preschool through Grade 8) with anxiety and related behaviors. Rather than respond with punishment- and reward-based consequences, it is important for adults to understand children’s challenges and teach them how to cope. This will allow children to improve their behavior by acquiring the necessary skills to make progress.

Presenter: Jessica Minahan, M.Ed, BCBA is a board certified behavior analyst, special educator and co-author of The Behavior Code:  A Practical Guide to Understanding and Teaching the Most Challenging Students, with Nancy Rappaport (www.jessicaminahan.com).
