December Vacation Camp at Lower Falls Community Center for children in grades K-6. It’s like summer camp in the winter. Participate in sports, arts and crafts, inside games and more at the Lower Falls Community Center. Each day features an exciting special event. December Vacation Thundercat Sports Clinic at Pellegirini Park for children ages 6 – 12. Holiday Shopping and more

Holiday items beckon for all ages! Stalls and tables spill forth treasures new and old, at 2 churches within a block of each other:

  • Second Church, UCC, 60 Highland Street, starts 9:00 am
  • First Unitarian Society of Newton, 1326 Washington Street, starts 9:30 am

Kids’ toys and activities abound! Shoppers can look through books for their young geniuses, buy handmade knits and homemade jellies or purchase decorated Christmas wreaths. There’ll be caroling, kid’s activities and lots of attic treasures.

Both churches offer a munch and lunch while listening to live holiday music and a Silent Auction. Free parking is available in Second Church’s Highland and Chestnut Street lots.

In Home Writing and Math Coaches

Parent – Teacher conferences and progress reports are upon us. Next Level Up has the professional writing and math coaches to help any level student succeed. They strive to assess and address each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses and their coaches provide direct one on one instruction in your home with the goal of having your child become more solid in the Writing Process, math fundamentals, or advanced math concepts.

They also aim to assist and inspire every student to become the best version of themselves that they can be by establishing and encouraging positive study habits, solid time management and organizational skills, strong, consistent effort, and the perspective to help students see the big picture.

HONOR THY TEACHER Recognizes 847 Educators

Thank you to the Newton Public Schools families who honored 847 NPS teachers and staff members through the Newton Schools Foundation’s 2015 HONOR THY TEACHER initiative this year.

The effort raised $42,000 toward NSF’s efforts to support innovative, creative programs and initiatives in the Newton Public Schools. Visit NSF’s website for a full list of teachers and staff recognized. NSF also published this list in the October 14th issue of the Newton Tab. Many thanks for supporting your children’s K-12 experience in the Newton Public Schools and for recognizing the difference these excellent educators make in their lives.

“Little Red’s Most Unusual Day” a show for all ages

Opera on the House, the New England Conservatory, and the Children’s Cooperative Nursery School present “Little Red’s Most Unusual Day”, an operatic version of the classic children’s fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood.

Tickets are $8.00/person or $25.00/family. For advance tickets, visit www.childrenscoop.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. The show is intended for all ages and will run for approximately 1 hour. Proceeds will help support the tuition assistance program at the Children’s Cooperative Nursery School.

Newton Cantonese School fundraiser

Please join this fundraiser event! Dine in or take-out at Bertucci’s Newton and 15% of the proceeds will be donated to the Newton Cantonese School. Please remember to bring the attached flyer.

The goal of the Newton Cantonese School is to teach the Cantonese dialect, reading and writing of the Chinese language, and the Chinese culture. They also offer activities including Chinese Painting, Chinese Dancing, Martial Arts, Chinese Cooking, etc. They are a 501c3 non-profit organization and located at the Bigelow School on Saturdays. After-school math program for Ages 5-13
