Digital Audio program

Read on to learn about the Digital Audio Production program at Plugged In, a unique nonprofit youth rock band program where young musicians of all levels and needs are welcome.

In this innovative 8-week project oriented program students will learn fundamental skills, techniques and tools to work with digital audio software. The program will culminate in a student created song or podcast project that will be showcased at a Plugged In end of session live-stream concert. This is not a program adapted for online learning. The Digital Audio Production program was developed for, is geared towards, and is enhanced by a virtual environment. Topics in the 90-minute weekly classes include:

Week 1: Intro to Digital Music
Week 2: Audio Editing and the Grid
Week 3: MIDI Editing and Drums
Week 4: Mixing and Effects
Week 5: Creative Arranging and Start of Final Projects
Week 6: Podcasting and Final Project Work
Week 7: History of Music Production and Digital Music Making and Final Project Work
Week 8: Exporting Final Projects and Conclusions

Newton City Seal

Mayor Fuller has convened an ad hoc Working Group to consider the design of the Newton City Seal. As they embark on their journey, they are looking for feedback from the community. Click here to read Historic Newton’s brief history of the seal.

There are three ways to provide input to the Working Group.

Online Music Lessons with The Conservatory at Highlands!

YMCA participates in 5 Days of Action to promote child protection during COVID-19

The West Suburban YMCA is participating in the Five Days of Action, a week designed to raise awareness and inspire adults to take action to protect children from sexual abuse.

The West Suburban YMCA encourages adults and organizations in the community to play a vital role in making Newton and the surrounding towns a safer place for children, especially during this ever-changing environment. As our communities continue to press pause and participate in social distancing, we all know that protecting kids looks different this year. Not only is our community dealing with a pandemic that is separating kids in need from the safe adults in their lives, but there are spikes in domestic violence, cries for social justice for Black lives, and more concerns about the mental health of youth and adults.

Five Days of Action will help communities and parents/caregivers take it One Day at a Time and will offer tips, tools, activities, and resources that are relevant to the current environment.

When adults know how abuse happens, see the warning signs, and respond quickly to prevent abuse, they foster a culture of child abuse prevention. Together, we can bring awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse in our communities and have important conversations around how we can all work together to prevent it from happening.
