Basic Rights In Special Education: A Workshop for Parents and Professionals

This free Basic Rights workshop provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under: Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Special Education Law and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). This workshop is designed to help parents learn to be effective partners with their child’s school to decide their child’s eligibility for special education, and to plan, make decisions and monitor their child’s progress in school. Newton Parent Advisory Council (NewtonPAC) for Special Education meetings are free and open to all people interested in learning more about special education.

It’s that time of year again to honor exceptional Newton teachers and staff who have touched your child’s life. The suggested donation is $25.00 per teacher/staff member.

Newton Schools Foundation celebrates Newton Public Schools teachers and staff by:

· Notifying honored teachers and staff of your gift via letter

· Listing all honored teachers and staff in the Newton TAB and Patch

· Sharing honoree names with the Superintendent and Principals

· Ensuring your donations go to support teaching & learning in Newton schools.

June 15th is the last day of school. School will be dismissed at 12:00 noon.

School Committee votes on FY 2013 Budget

The School Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, March 26th at 7:30 pm in the Ed Center. The agenda includes a final vote on the fiscal 2013 budget as well as an item on swing space at the Carr School. For the full agenda, please click here.

Revised Calendar for SC FY13 Budget Meetings

Attached is the Newton School Committee FY13 Budget Calendar. Please note there are some time and location changes from earlier published information. In addition,

there are some changes in the dates when specific topics will be addressed.

The public hearing, when comments from the public will be heard, will take place on March 20th at 7:00 pm at a location TBD. Other meetings are listed and all sessions are open to the public.
