Register for Fall Kindergarten Soccer!

Since 1993, Kindergarten Soccer has been introducing children to soccer in a fun and non-competitive environment, where girls and boys develop friendships, learn teamwork, and gain confidence. We play on Saturday mornings at Richardson Field in Waban, starting September 7.  Join us and meet other Newton families! The program is open to all Newton children who will start kindergarten in the fall of 2013.

Yoga for kids

Down Under Yoga located in Newton with some of the country’s finest yoga instructors is offering Fall classes for kids ages 3-6, 5-7, 8-11, 11-14 and for Teens. Classes teach kids skills to keep their bodies strong and flexible as well as make them feel calm, confident and secure. Kids also love the group format of these fun and challenging classes. Session runs September 10 – December 21.

Extended Day Program for the Garden City Sports Camps

This new program is officially named “The Hawkes Nest” and it will be run by the Assistant Athletic Director at Newton North High School, Eric Hawkes.

The Hawkes Nest, is a dedicated Extended Day Program that is designed to provide the families of the Garden City Summer Camps a stress relief option and a safe environment for their kids.

It will be run Monday-Friday from July 1st through August 16th (excepting July 4th). The Extended Day is run in 3 sessions that are $50 each. Registration is Open for Newton SouthEast Little League’s Summer 2013 Sandlot Season

Following the tremendous success of the Sandlot program last year, NSELL is pleased to announce that registration for the Summer 2013 Sandlot Program is open for eligible 9-12 year olds. Instead of forming teams with set rosters and coaching staffs they will conduct “Sandlot Baseball Nights” on two weeknights per week from the last week of June through the middle of August.

They’ll provide shirts, hats, umpires, coaches and other game-related logistics. The objective is to give everyone a chance to have fun playing competitive baseball in a well organized environment. The cost is $75 and limited to 75 participants on a first come, first serve basis. Please visit www.newtonsoutheastll.org for more details and to register.

Martial Arts Demonstration & Fundraiser, June 16

Calvin Chin’s Martial Arts Academy is holding its 2013 Open House on Sunday, June 16,  and selling tickets to benefit the Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity.

The event will include lion dance, dragon dance, kung fu and tai chi demonstrations, and Chinese choreographed dance.

Helen Gee Chin was the administrator at CCMAA for 15 years and a proponent of preserving the history and promoting the practice of traditional Chinese martial arts. The Foundation is a tribute to her life’s passion. The Foundation awards college scholarships to encourage academic achievement and motivate individuals to become serious martial artists. Last year, the Foundation awarded more than $10,000 in scholarships.

Open Gym for Middle Schoolers, Tuesdays 4-6pm

Newton Public Schools is offering students in grades 6, 7 and 8 the opportunity to participate in a FREE recreational fitness program at Day Middle School every Tuesday from 4:00-6:00 P.M., starting April 2nd through the end of the school year.

Based on student interest, the instructor may organize specific activities (e.g., basketball, dance). The program will be supervised by Tyler Wachtelhausen, Physical Education, Health and Wellness Teacher at Day.

Registration is required. Registration Forms are available in every middle school’s Main Office, or you can email Susan Linn for a copy.

 

Are you ready to Kick, Punt, Pass and Cheer?

The Newton Mustangs offer football and cheer for all children in grades 2 through 8. There are no try outs and all players are placed on teams according to grade.

There will be a Kick, Punt, Pass and Cheer Clinic on June 21st – 6:00 p.m. at the West Suburban YMCA. Practice the basics or grow your skills in football and cheerleading. All who are interested in learning about the Mustangs are encouraged to join the clinic. Clinic location: 276 Church St, Newton Corner.

Northeaster Univ. Soccer Clinics, Camps

The Northeastern University soccer program offers a dynamic program of clinics and camps, which focuses on learning through fun games and small-sided play. Co-ed groups will experience our Future Huskies philosophy of promoting fundamental skills and sportsmanship. Upcoming programs include:

  • Elite Winter Prospect Clinic, Feb. 23-24
  • Spring Vacation Camp, April 15-18
  • Summer Youth Camps, June 17-21 and 24-28

Players are grouped both by age and by skill level so that each child is challenged, but not overwhelmed. Our goal is to provide a positive learning environment for all participants, from beginners to the advanced.
