LIVESTRONG program offered at the Y

The WEST SUBURBAN YMCA is one of more than 144 Ys across the nation that offers LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a free 12-week health and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors achieve their holistic health goals. Since 2007, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA has helped more than 13,000 cancer survivors and their families nationwide. The WEST SUBURBAN YMCA launched their pilot program this February with 14 participants and start-up funding from the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation. The program will be offered several more times before the end of the year.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is proven to help people affected by cancer reclaim their health. The research-based program offers those living with, through and beyond cancer a safe, empowering environment to participate in activities focused on strengthening the whole person. Participants work with specially trained Y staff and volunteers to achieve goals such as building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance and improving confidence and self-esteem. Dance Studio Open House

All That Jazz is now accepting registration for the 2016-2017 school year, as well as summer classes. The proud winner of the Newton Tab Readers Choice Awards for Best Children’s Dance Studio in Newton since 2011, they specialize in building self-esteem and creating a warm, supportive and nurturing environment for all children as they learn the art of dance. The director, Miss Deb Lifson Vogel is a Newton native and currently has children in the Newton Public Schools.

Lace up for the Mason-Rice Alumni Fun Run on June 13th!

Please join in the first-ever Mason-Rice Alumni Fun run for all alumi/alumnae in middle school, high school, and college on. See Mr. Springer at his final official Fun Run, enjoy some slush, and cheer on your former Mason-Rice classmates if you don’t want to run.

There will be a prize for the top male and female winner in each division.

10th Annual Rove the Cove

The Auburndale Community Association is hosting the 10th annual Rove the Cove 5K road/trail race on June 25th. The race starts and finishes in the picnic area of The Cove in Auburndale. t-shirt to the first 100 registrants. Prizes raffled at the end.

All fitness levels welcome! You can walk or run. All finishers 14 and under receive official finishers medal. Start location: “The Cove” Auburndale Park, West Pine St, Auburndale, MA (Commonwealth Ave to Melrose St. Left on to W.Pine).

Waban Village Day May 22nd

Come join in the fun. There will be a rides (some new ones) food and entertainment. Village Day will be kicked off by the 11th Annual Family Fun Run at 10:00 am. Racers of all ages are encouraged to participate, including children who are allowed to ride bikes and scooters along the 3.1mile race course. All racers must check-in at the Fun Run table in Waban Square at 9:00 am and will be able to register and pick up their T-shirts and race numbers there as well. The registration fee is $20/individual or $50/family (up to 4 members) and includes the race day T-shirt(s), which will be made from performance fabric. Please register here:

Entertainment at Village Day:
This year Waban Village Day is pleased to announce performances by the Crocodile River Band and the Newton Family Signers. Crocodile River promotes and performs African and African-influenced music, including Brazilian, Caribbean and Flamenco. The Newton Family Singers is an intergenerational family chorus, bringing together families and friends of all ages to sing and perform folk and traditional American music. This will be their 5th appearance at Waban Village Day
