Parenting Training in Think:Kids Collaborative Problem Solving Approach

Do you ever feel frustrated with your child? Find yourself shouting often and imposing punishments or rewards in reaction to challenging behavior? Do you wish you had a more effective parenting approach that also helps to build a better relationship between you and your child? Then this training is for you.

Think:Kids Collaborative Problem Solving parenting model, based in MGH’s Department of Psychiatry, provides parents with concrete tools to better understand and help children (ages 3-18) with challenging behavior – from ordinary, day-to-day challenges like getting to school, homework and bedtime, to more serious challenges. It’s based on the understanding that many kids lack the skill, not the will, to behave well – specifically skills related to problem solving, flexibility and frustration tolerance. Beatlejuice and Friends: The British Invasion of Needham

The Plugged In Teen Band Program is excited to present the British Invasion of Needham, featuring Boston’s #1 Beatles cover band, Beatlejuice and Friends.

This 21+ event will provide an evening of amazing music, dancing, cash bar and the best fish & chips around (available for sale and served by Captain Marden’s Cod Squad). Proceeds from this event will support Plugged In’s Capital Campaign.

Soccer Program for 6-9 year old boys & girls

Registration is now open for the Mini Champions League, a soccer youth development program for young children.

Run by Newton native Victor Rosario at the Valeo Futbol Club the program introduces the game of soccer and teaches basic fundamental skills to girls and boys 6-9 years old. Each session is an hour in duration – 20 minutes technical work, 40 minutes playing.

HISTORIC NEWTON BOOK CLUB MEETING
Thursday, March 19, 7:30 PM

Offering a nuanced understanding of the American Revolution from the British point of view, this month’s selection is The Men Who Lost America: British Leadership, the American Revolution and the Fate of the Empire, by Andrew Jackson O’Shaughnessy. Contrary to familiar stereotypes, he suggests the loss of the American colonies and was not because British leaders were blundering incompetents. Quite the contrary, they were astute and capable, and in some instances brilliant strategists. The book has won numerous prizes, including the George Washington Book Prize, where the jury praised the book as “a major contribution to the history of the American Revolution.” The book club is free and open to the public; new members are always welcome. Affordable SAT Prep Classes

Newton Community Education offers affordable classes to help students prepare for the SAT. This spring NCE will be offering the following classes:

SAT 1 Math Review (at Newton North and Newton South)
SAT I Verbal Review (at Newton North and Newton South)
SAT II Biology Review
SAT II Chemistry Review.

Live Music at Weekday Nursery School Fundraiser, 3/15

Please join us on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Newton Highland’s very own, Weekday Nursery School (54 Lincoln Street), from 3:00-5:00pm for our annual Fundraiser.All proceeds will benefit Weekday’s Tuition Assistance Fund.

One of Boston’s finest family singer-songwriters, Vanessa Trien, will perform with a trio of her award-winning Jumping Monkeys band for a musical afternoon full of singing, tickling, jumping, singing, flying, and certainly dancing! Vanessa and her Jumping Monkeys have won legions of young fans and their parents alike with their highly interactive, sing-jump-and-dance-along shows and sophisticated acoustic instrumentation, as well as their three Parents’ Choice Award-winning CDs.

Vanessa and the Jumping Monkeys will perform from 3:30-4:30pm, but the event begins at 3:00pm and continues until 5:00pm. All can enjoy face painting, jewelry tattoos, snacks and more.

Advance tickets are $20/family if purchased through the pre-school Director or online using EventBrite website Tickets at the door are $25/family.
