Newton South HS used sports equipment Sale

Don’t miss your chance to get a deal on sports equipment!

Skis, boots, poles, lacrosse equipment, baseball gear, balls, gently used cleats, dance shoes and lots more on sale with proceeds benefitting Newton South athletes. Come support Newton South athletes and get some great bargains! You can find the sale at the back of the school across from the tennis courts.

Cultural understandings through language study

Come to an evening with Deborah Fallows, linguist and author of Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin Lessons in Life, Love, and Language. Deborah will speak about cultural understandings acquired through language study from her personal experience of living in China from 2006-2010. The evening will also include an armchair conversation and Q&A with the audience, before concluding with refreshments and a chance to meet Deborah.

Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin Lessons in Life, Love, and Language and her new book Our Towns (written with husband James Fallows) will both be available for purchase at the event. Minding Your Mind and the Newton After School Association present the original movie documentary Angst, a film created to open up the conversation about anxiety and provide tools, resources and hope. Help wanted

Parent volunteers are needed to assist with Newton’s beloved Halloween Window Painting Contest.  Volunteers will collect vendor/store release forms for a few hours during September and October, and also tape up banners on October 25th & 26th on store windows so students know where to paint.

This is a very easy, fun and flexible way to get in your steps and make Halloween spook-tacular for all Newton kids!  Email Lori Lass at lorilass@gmail.com or call 617-332-9694 if you can help.

Middle and High Schoolers invited to the Greener World Meeting

Come to the first meeting of Students for a Greener World (SGW) for the 2018-19 school year with other Middle and High School kids interested in the environment.

Donate to the Centre Street Food Pantry and help them reach the goal!

On September 23rd, the Centre Street Food Pantry will participate in The Ride for Food.  It is their biggest community fundraiser, and the money raised allows them to provide hundreds of families in Newton and  surrounding communities with food and other basic necessities.

Newton Child Assault Prevention Program Seeking Volunteers

Do you have three mornings a month free during the school year? Are you looking for a meaningful and fun way to make a difference in children’s lives? If so, then join the dynamic team of trained CAP volunteers who are committed to using guided discussions and role plays to teach elementary age children in the Newton Schools that they have the right to be Safe, Strong and Free with their friends and peers, when they meet adult strangers, and with those who are trusted to take care of them.
