Nomadic Theater presents

The much acclaimed Newton Nomadic Theater is presenting “The Beauty Queen of Leenane”, a black comedy by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh at interesting locations all around Newton. Featuring actors Linda Goetz, Lida McGirr, Dave Rich and Matt Phillips.

Bikes not Bombs

Do you have an old or unused bike? Donate it to Bikes Not Bombs, a local non-profit that ships bikes overseas to support economic development. Bikes of any size and condition are welcome and can be dropped off  along with a $10 donation per bike used to defray shipping costs. The CPC meeting on May 14th, starting at 7:00 pm in City Hall Room 204, includes a public hearing on the Museum Archives project (Historic Newton/Jackson Homestead), which has received $742,345 and is requesting an additional $400,000. Tanglewood Marionettes “Cinderella” -A classic fairy tale told with wit and style, the story unfolds as the pages of a giant book open to reveal each beautifully painted setting, featuring lavishly costumed marionettes. All your favorite characters are here, from gentle Cinderella to the bumptious stepsisters and the charming prince, but we do offer a few new surprises: Cinderella’s method of conveyance to the ball is NOT the traditional horse-drawn coach, and, when all hope seems lost, a clever little bluebird saves the day for Cinderella.

Evening Folk Festival

Catie Curtis, who has appeared at the White House several times, is a veteran of the singer/songwriter folk scene, touring throughout the US for 20 years and releasing 13 CDs. Her credits include touring with Lilith Fair, and winning Grand Prize in the 2006 International Songwriting Competition (out of 15,000 entries) and recording a duet with Kris Kristofferson. Her songs appear in numerous films and TV shows, and she has been called a “folk- rock goddess” by New Yorker Magazine.

Also performing: Rob Siegel; Waiting Four Neil; Grace Donovan, Newton North High School; The Barbara Cassidy Band. Food trucks and Beer Garden on site.

OMEGA Summit

The MIT AgeLab is recruiting motivated and service-oriented high school students to get involved with OMEGA- Opportunities for Multigenerational Exchange, Growth, and Action. This is an excellent opportunity to build students’ resumes while creating meaningful connections in the community.

The AgeLab is hosting an OMEGA Summit at MIT on Saturday, May 16th, and hope Newton High School students can join them in kick-starting vibrant intergenerational relationships in and around Newton.
