Team Believe Carnival for Best Buddies

Team Believe Carnival for Best Buddies. Come join in the fun and help a great cause!

Inspired by Brown 7th grader Joshua Yood, Team Believe is a group of families and friends which raises funds and organizes activities to support the mission of Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing opportunities for friendship, training and employment.

On Thursday, April 7th, Team Believe is holding a glorious indoor Springtime Carnival – fun for kids and adults from 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm in Boston – right next to the State House and Boston Common. Please join them for an amazing array of carnival games and food, raffles, awesome magic with Newton’s own Constantine, music, karaoke, a bar for the adults, an auction, and much more!

There is no entry fee. Tickets for games, food, drinks, raffles etc. will be available for purchase for $1 each at the event, or can be pre-purchased for $5 for 6 tickets, or $20 for 25. Vanessa and the Jumping Monkeys

Bowen Cooperative Nursery School invites families to attend a performance from Vanessa and the Jumping Monkeys. Vanessa Trien and her band will perform a lively, family-friendly, interactive show that will encourage singing and dancing from guests of all ages. Tickets will be sold both in advance (adults $10.00, kids $8.00) and at the door (adults $12.00, kids $10.00). Pizza, snacks, and raffle tickets will also be available for purchase and all proceeds will benefit the school.

Bowen Cooperative Nursery School is a non-profit, child-centered, play-based school. Bowen is a school of families, not just children ­ a place where all members have a chance to learn and grow. Newton South parent Betsy Silverman will be exhibiting work as part of ARTISTS 8, a group of eight artists, at Church of the Redeemer, 379 Hammond Street., Chestnut Hill.

A group of a local artists including Sharon Schindler  are exhibiting at L’Aroma Cafe in West Newton all weekend. Great Local Shopping. A collection of Functional Photography, Jewelry, Paintings, Glass and Pottery will be for sale .

NewtonPAC meeting March 29th

The topic of the NewtonPAC’s next meeting will be Restraint, Seclusion and Time-Outs, and the use of quiet rooms. Dan Almeida, District Supervisor of ABA Services, will be presenting in the new State regulations and Newton’s policy changes.

If your child ever has (or might have) time out of class for the purpose of calming, these changes affect you. The NewtonPAC worked hard on the policy changes with NPS to insure parental notification and involvement in the use of these procedures. Please try to attend if you can.

Newton Cares invites you to learn a suicide prevention training called QPR, Question, Persuade, Refer. It’s an an evidence based, simple technique that offers everyone strategies and approaches to responding to someone experiencing distress and information about how to get the expert help required. There are 2 upcoming community trainings:
