QPR Training with Newton Cares

Newton Cares in collaboration with Historic Newton invites you to learn a suicide prevention training called QPR, Question, Persuade, Refer.

It’s an evidence based, simple technique that offers everyone strategies and approaches to responding to someone experiencing distress and information about how to get the expert help required.

NewtonPAC Meeting September 28th

The Newton Parent Advisory Council for Special Education invites parents to join the first meeting of the new school year. This will be a great opportunity to meet our new Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Karen Shmukler. She will speak about her background and philosophy, and there will be time for questions and answers.

Nursery School Open House

Parents are invited to explore Bowen Cooperative Nursery School during their Open House. The event will include an opportunity to meet the instructors and for families to sample some of the fun and engaging activities offered by the school. Newton CPC Agenda and New Proposal Hearings

All items on the Newton Community Preservation Committee’s agenda for October 6th at 7:00 pm are committee business, including reviews of online reports and updating proposal instructions. New proposals received in the Fy17 annual funding round will be distributed but will not be discussed at this meeting. Public hearings on these proposals will be held on November 3rd and, if needed to accommodate additional proposals, on November 17th.

Making Connections: Ways to Engage as We Age in Newton

Join Newton’s Health and Human Services Department at the West Suburban YMCA for a FREE OPEN HOUSE filled with classes, programs, and activities geared towards older adults in Newton! Workshops will be offered throughout the course of the day.

Refreshments will be served, a raffle with prizes will be held, and a swing band will perform. Transportation is available.

Fall Festival

Come to the Fall Festival at Newton Community Farm. Join an afternoon of fun activities on the farm. There will be live music, a sing-along led by Julia of Music Together at 12:30, pumpkin decorating by Becky, an apple-pie bake off, face painting, live music by the High Strung Strummers and corn hole for your family to enjoy! And new this year, a Newton Community Farm Scavenger Hunt for adults and kids to do together. They are excited to
