Newton Community Ed classes for Middle Schoolers

Registration is now underway for winter classes through Newton Community Education. For middle schoolers, we have Fencing on Mondays, Archery, Computer Animation, Low-Tech Computer Game, Fast Math, and Ultimate Frisbee on Tuesdays, Make a TV Documentary on Fridays, and Babysitting and CPR Training on Saturdays. We also have vacation-week Babysitting and CPR classes.

Jazz, Hip Hop and Creative Dance

Dancers will learn the basic elements of Jazz Dance and Hip Hop set to today’s popular music. Along with dance technique instruction, they will be given the opportunity to creatively express themselves through open ended movement. Brookline Music School Open House & Choral Workshop, Jan. 13

The Voice Department of Brookline Music School is pleased to announce its third annual Vocal Workshop for the Junior District Auditions on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 1:00-3:00 pm at 25 Kennard Road in Brookline. This workshop is free and open to all students in the Eastern District who are planning to audition the following weekend.

The voice faculty will rehearse the required piece, drill sight-singing, and offer tips on vocal health and auditioning in this two-hour workshop. RSVP’s are requested from those who plan on participating. RSVP’s should include student’s name, voice part, and school district and should be emailed to the Voice Department Coordinator Bonnie Pomfret.

Spring 2013 Programs at Brookline Music School January 29 – June 17, 2013

Brookline Music School’s Term II (Spring) programs begin January 29, 2013, offering a variety of classes and private instruction for all ages and abilities. Term II runs for 15 weeks. Brookline Music School (BMS) welcomes students ages 4 years to adult to study private music lessons on a number of instruments. The school introduced a folk music program that offers group classes for adults and family jams. Music for iPad classes include Garageband for iPad and iPad Band! Jazz/Rock, and Chamber Ensembles are offered year-round for kids, teens and adults. Ensembles provide a unique opportunity to experience the joys of music making with others. Brookline Music School has a wide array of ensembles for all ages and abilities – with multiple performance opportunities – catering to a variety of musical abilities and interests.

Open mic night & flute workshop from Brookline Music School

Brookline Music School faculty Scott Pittman hosts a weekly Open Mic Night at Café Nicholas, 1632 Beacon Street, Brookline in Washington Square from 7:00 to 9:00pm for FREE. Brookline Music School provides a full drum set, amplifiers for bass, guitar and keyboard, and two microphones for the evening. All ages and skill levels are welcome to attend and perform. This is a great opportunity to showcase your talent without the intimidating atmosphere.

BMS will hold its 9th Annual Suzuki Flute Workshop on Sunday, January 20 and Monday, January 21, from 9:00am to 5:00pm at 25 Kennard Road in Brookline. This two-day workshop features a master class, group class and ensemble or reading class each day, and ends with an informal concert. Non-Suzuki flute students are welcome to join in the fun but should be familiar with some of the repertoire from the Suzuki Method. Workshop tuition is $120, with additional class fees of $20.
