Looking for fun filled, hands-on, educational classes for your young one this summer? Then look no further. Whether it be Farm Sprouts or Little Diggers for your younger child, Farmer in Training for elementary students or Socially Aware Young (SAY) Farmers for middle school students, there are opportunities for all age groups.

Farm Sprouts offered June 16th – August 21st; meets weekly, choose your day

Kesher Newton is now enrolling for this Fall​!

Kesher is a pluralistic Jewish after school program held on Tuesdays and Thursdays for grades K-5. Kesher emphasizes joyful, hands-on Jewish learning which includes modern Hebrew, Judaic studies, and fun-filled electives. Located in Chestnut Hill, Kesher is an independent pluralistic community that is welcoming to all.

College Application help

Rachel Greenberg, writer, editor, and writing tutor, is available to help prospective college students write their college application essays. She will not do any of the writing for them, but skillfully and patiently guides them through the writing process. Is your child interested in exploring and expanding their artistic side? Whether he or she is a young arts and crafts lover or an older more serious creator, she will work with them one on one to help them further their skills and knowledge, creative thinking, and develop a personal artistic language. She will design a unique lesson plan specific to your child’s interests. Possible session topics may include painting, watercolor, ink drawing, figure drawing, collage, multi-media painting, sketch-booking, clay work, book making and book binding, jewelry making (from beading to designing fine metal pieces), and sustainable crafts and sculpture.

2015 Newton Schools Foundation Honor Thy Teacher

May 4th – 8th  is Teacher Appreciation Week. Say “Thank You” to the exceptional teachers and staff who motivate, educate and inspire your students to be the best they can be by participating in the Honor Thy Teacher campaign.

Newton Schools Foundation created this special program for parents to honor teachers by giving a gift in their name. You may also choose to honor a special education aide, a fine arts or music teacher, or a coach or counselor who has touched your child’s life. Suggested donation is $25 per teacher/staff member.

NSF celebrates Newton Public Schools teachers and staff by:
• Notifying honored teachers and staff of your gift
• Sharing honoree names with the Superintendent and Principals.
• Listing all honored teachers and staff in the Newton TAB

OMEGA Summit

The MIT AgeLab is recruiting motivated and service-oriented high school students to get involved with OMEGA- Opportunities for Multigenerational Exchange, Growth, and Action. This is an excellent opportunity to build students’ resumes while creating meaningful connections in the community.

The AgeLab is hosting an OMEGA Summit at MIT on Saturday, May 16th, and hope Newton High School students can join them in kick-starting vibrant intergenerational relationships in and around Newton.

Special screening of “Most Likely to Succeed”

Our school system was designed in 1893…[it]…was perfectly designed…to prepare workers for routine jobs that no longer exist. As we try to out-drill and out-test Korea we are leaving millions of young adults ill-prepared, uninspired and lacking the skills they need to thrive in an innovation economy. After seeing this film, you’ll never look at school the same way again.

Principal Jennifer Price, the Newton North PTSO, and the Newton North School Council invite you to a special screening of “Most Likely to Succeed,” an acclaimed documentary about the American educational system. If you have been getting up to speed on growth mindset this year, you will find this movie of particular interest!

The movie will be preceded by a brief vote to approve the PTSO’s budget and officers for 2015-16. The movie will be followed by a brief Q&A.
