Enjoy a Fun Night Out and Support the SEGA Girls School in Tanzania

Join in the fun and raise critical funds for the SEGA Girls School in Tanzania at the 6th Annual Nurturing Minds African Evening!

Sipping for SEGA, on November 6th, is a festive night at the Mass Horticultural Society’s beautiful Elm Bank in Wellesley. This year, along with great food and company, a wine tasting has been added where experts will lead you in sampling wines from around the world.

Become a Newton School Volunteer and hear these words from a student.

  • Tutor a 2nd – 5th grade child in basic mathematics concepts once a week
    for 30-45 minutes.
  • Select your preferred school, grade, day, and time.
  • Play special math games that reinforce skills and help students gain
    confidence and competence.
  • Training, Everyday Math books and learning materials, and ongoing support
    are provided.
  • No teaching experience is needed.

New TV’s 2015 After School Program

A free, 4-week course held at your school during after school hours. You will learn how to storyboard, write scripts and use video cameras to create music videos and public service announcements, which will then be aired on NewTV’s Education Channel!

The Secret Life of a Massachusetts Teen

Do you wonder…What teens are really thinking? Why they don’t share their fears? How we can better support teens? How we can become better parents? This is a high-energy presentation for that actively focuses on what teens are really thinking, what they fear, why they do not share their fears, and how parents can more effectively support their teen.

This presentation will cover areas such as acting out behaviors, drug and alcohol use, depression, suicide, and more. The workshop will be facilitated by Jon Mattleman, a mental health counselor and trainer with 30 years of experience working with youth, parents, and families. Great minds don’t always think alike! That’s the message of the children’s book, Fish In A Tree, to be featured at Understanding Our Differences’ 4th Annual Family Book Event with a disability theme. Author Lynda Mullaly Hunt will talk about and sign her New York Times bestselling novel, about a girl with learning disabilities who discovers that there’s a lot more to her—and to everyone—than a label.

Newton Inspires November 9th

Newton Schools Foundation will present the fifth annual Newton Inspires: An Evening of Ideas and Community. Since 2011, Newton Inspires has been uniting Newton residents for an evening of discussion with some of Newton’s brightest, most accomplished and most interesting community members.

This year’s program features headliners, Anita Diamant, author; John Harthorne, founder and CEO, MassChallenge; Billy Starr, founder and executive director, Pan-Mass Challenge; Stephen Kaufer, president and CEO, TripAdvisor; Roger Berkowitz, president and CEO, Legal Sea Foods; and Neil Swidey, journalist and author.
