Winter Vacation Sewing Camp

Kids can’t wait to have time off school but how soon does the novelty wear off for both of you? Don’t get stuck scrambling to entertain them days on end. Take a break and send the kids to sewing camp and let the fun and creativity begin!

Beginners and seasoned stitchers will appreciate the mix of fun and useful projects. Newton Sewing Studio welcomes kids as young as five and parents are more than welcome to stay and sew.

February Vacation Counselors in Training: CIT Program at New Art Center (GR 7-10)

This is a training program for teens who are interested in developing leadership skills working with younger kids with a focus on the visual arts. Under the mentorship of experienced New Art Center staff and faculty, CITs will have the opportunity to work directly with young children during art classes. If you are interested in becoming a future counselor, and if you like the visual arts, this is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and important life skills while you still get to make art. Must bring daily lunch. CITs do not leave the building during lunchtime. LIMITED SPACE. Class Day: Monday-Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm, 2/18/2013 – 2/22/2013, tuition: $200.00. New Art Center February Vacation Programs for Teens

For grades 7-10. Our programs offer opportunities for teens to express and develop their talents and artistic ideas learn techniques and gain important communication and critical thinking skills. Teens participate daily in two classes: ceramics class including wheel throwing and handbuilding and Mixed Media class including any medium of their choice such as drawing, painting, 3D, wire art, collage, printing, illustration, photography and 2D. This is a great opportunity for teens to make their own art, build their portfolio, learn about art history, new trends, and meet other teens. Classes are led by experienced New Art Center teachers and professional artists. Must bring lunch or parent/guardian must sign a “Permission to Leave the Premises” form. Looking to fill some of the school vacation time?

The Tanglewood Marionettes production of “The Dragon King” at the Newton Cultural Center on February 24th at 2:00 pm, will delight everyone in the family! An underwater fantasy based on Chinese folklore, it is the tale of an intrepid Grandmother who journeys to the bottom of the sea to seek the Dragon King,

Winter Programming at Newton Community Farm for kids & adults

The Newton Community Farm (NCF) is pleased to offer a variety of courses this winter for children, gardeners, and others who have an interest in the outdoors, food, and farming.

For children, join us on Feb 6  for an Early Release Day Activity and again on February 21 for Kids on the Farm – Then and Now, a vacation week program at the Jackson Homestead.

Winter Workshop Fest at Watertown Children’s Theatre, Jan. 21

The Watertown Children’s Theatre, arsenalARTS and New Repertory Theatre are teaming up to provide a fun-filled day of theatre, visual art and more at the Arsenal Center on January 21, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Students in grades K-5 can explore the worlds of both theatre and visual arts with WCT and the ACA, while students in grades 6-9 can experience intensive performance workshops with WCT and New Rep!

Register for the morning session (9:30 am – 12:45 pm) or the afternoon session (1:15 pm – 4:30 pm) or both! Students enrolled in both programs may bring a nut-free lunch and will be supervised during the lunch break.
