December Vacation Art Workshops for Children

The Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown offers December Vacation Art Workshops for children in grades K-6.

December 27th : Try It! A special one-day workshop in a variety of media with morning and/or afternoon sessions (each with a different focus) and optional supervised lunch. Register: 617-923-0100, ext. 8309

December 30th and December 31st: The Great Artists
Children will look at reproductions of work by famous artists, using them as inspiration to create their own masterpieces in a variety of media. Morning and/or afternoon sessions (each with a different focus) with optional supervised lunch in this two-day workshop.

Never sewn before? Orientation classes start at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Try the embroidery machine or bring a blank T and make your own permanent iron on transfer! Clothing is easy when you use the computerized pattern drafting software.

Studio will be open 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and will be closed for Thanksgiving Day only. Visit online for more info and to reserve your spot, they fill fast!

Musicians Camp February Break

School of Rock Boston announces February Break Camp for musicians ages 7-17. Students receive intensive individual and group lessons on the instrument of their choice and the camp culminates in a live show a rock venue in Cambridge.

Newton Parks and Recreation Winter Programs

December School Vacation Program
It’s like summer camp in the winter for children in grades K – 6. Located at the Newton Centre Hut, children can participate in sports, arts and crafts, inside games, outside games, gym activities, and daily special events. December 26, 27, 30, and 31 2013 from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (extended day available to 5:30 pm).

Family Trip to Disney on Ice – December 27th
Coach bus leaves the Albemarle Field House promptly at 6:00 pm and returns at approximately 9:30 pm. Embark on the ultimate sightseeing vacation with all your favorite Disney characters in Disney on Ice presents Passport to Adventure.  Upbeat music, lovable characters and exciting destinations make Disney on Ice presents Passport to Adventure a vacation you’ll never forget.

Nashoba Valley Ski and Snowboard Program
Join us for our six week learn to ski and snowboard program on Tuesday afternoons for grades 3 – 5 or Friday evenings for grades 6 – 12 starting in January, 2014. Each program provides coach bus transportation from Newton to the Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford, MA. Participants that already know how to ski or snowboard may sign up for the lift ticket only option, all others should sign up for ski or snowboard lessons.

Newton South Recreation Complex
Operated at the Newton South High School, the Newton South Recreation Complex offers a variety of programs for youth and adults on Sundays in the winter. Sign up for Quick Start Tennis, Cardio Tennis, Ninjaneering with Lego, Badminton Instruction, Family Badminton, Zumba, Open Workout and more. The Newton South Recreation Complex runs on Sundays starting January 5, 2014.

NewtonSTEM is a free, volunteer-run clearinghouse of information about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in Newton. The website highlights opportunities, events, resources, and achievements — for students of all ages in school, after school, on vacation breaks, and in summer. April Vacation program, Swingin’ Safari

Spring is in the air, and that means April Vacation is just around the corner! Watertown Children’s Theater has opened up their April Vacation program, Swingin’ Safari, to fifth graders! Co-produced by WCT and arsenalARTS, it will be a week of drama, music, and visual art that is not to be missed!

Spring & Summer programs at Newton Community Farm

Newton Community Farm has announced its 2013 spring and summer education programs for youth and families.

  • Offerings include vacation week programs and other classes during the spring.
  • Summer programs for children (pre-school through grade 9) include popular offerings such as Farm Sprouts, Little Diggers, Farmer in Training, and Socially Aware Young (SAY) Farmers.
  • High school students interested

    in farming and working outdoors should consider serving as a volunteer intern with the Farm Manager.

  • Adults and older teens can learn about gardening, cooking, or raising chickens!

Feb. vacation program at Watertown Children’s Theatre

Watertown Children’s Theatre has a few openings remaining for a NEW half-day vacation program for middle schoolers.  Students will explore theatre and performance styles from Shakespearean Stage Combat to Commedia Clown Fighting!

 

Tuesday to Friday,

Feb. 19-22
1:00 – 4:00pm
Location: Arsenal Center for the Arts

Practicing conventions of theatre and performance through each style and learning how actors keep each other safe, students will ‘fight for applause’ in a final perfomance for family and friends.
