Winter Youth Soccer Clinic

The Lady Eagles Soccer School Winter Clinic groups players by age and ability and the program is catered to both the beginner and elite club level player. Ages range from 6-14 years old. The goal is to challenge each camper to leave the clinics with an increased enthusiasm for the game and ideas to further develop them as individual players. Great Winter Programs

Newton Parks and Recreation has a lot of great winter programs for children and adults. Check out the Newton Parks and Rec website at http://www.newtonma.gov/gov/parks
for information about our upcoming winter programs for children and adults. Some programs include:

December Vacation Programs
– at the Lower Falls Community Center December 29th, 30th, 31st and January 2nd for children in grades K – 6. Participate in sports, arts and crafts, inside games, and more. Each day features a fun special event. 8:30 am – 3:30 pm with extended day options.

– Thundercat Sports December 26th, 29th, 30th and 31st for children ages 6 – 12. Play a variety of sports including basketball, floor hockey, soccer, dodgeball and more. 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

– family movie day at the West Newton Cinema December 29th and 30th. Enjoy a movie, popcorn and drink all for one low price. Tickets are sold at the West Newton Cinema starting at 10:00 am with the movies starting at 11:00 am.

Newton South Recreation Complex
– located at the Newton South High School, this Recreation Complex offers a variety of activities for youth and adults on Sundays including tennis, badminton, sewing classes, engineering with lego, fencing, thundercat sports, archery, workout facilities, and more.

Ski and Snowboard Program at Nashoba Valley
– For grades 5 – 12. Learn to ski or snowboard with lessons at Nashoba Valley Ski area. Already know how to ski or snowboard? Join us for the lift ticket only option. Transportation to Nashoba Valley is provided from Newton. This program runs on Fridays from 5:45 pm – 10:15 pm.

Camp Fair
– See what Newton Parks and Recreation and Newton Public Schools have to offer your child in Newton for the summer of 2015. 12:00 – 4:00 pm at the Newton North High School in the cafeteria.

Veterans Day Basketball Clinic

A Veterans Day school vacation basketball clinic will be held for children in grades K-5. Children will develop dribbling, passing, and shooting skills and will engage in games with children of similar age and ability. Program is led by youth recreation specialist Peter Sylvester. Children will develop dribbling, passing and shooting skills and will engage in games with children of similar age and ability. Program is led by youth recreation specialist Peter Sylvester. The Innovation Institute registration is now open

The Innovation Institute is the leading academic science and engineering enrichment program for grades K-12 in Greater Boston. It offers young people wonderful opportunities to learn in depth with talented scientists, engineers and educators.

During the fall, The Innovation Institute offers courses ranging from computer programming (Python) and science of renewable energies to neuroscience and engineering immersion. Special High School Seminar: At the Biomedical Frontiers (fall term only) covering the latest research in areas ranging from 3D printing applications to cancer therapeutics.

April Vacation Week Programs for Teens @ the Newton Free Library

Saving Mr. Banks Movie Screening
Teens are invited to watch Saving Mr. Banks on Tuesday, April 22nd at 3:00 pm. The film tells the story of how P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins, half-heartedly meet with Walt Disney who wanted to adapt her book for the big screen. Rated PG-13, runtime 125 min. Open to ages 13 and up.

Rockets: There and Back Again
Create an air rocket that launches across the room, and engineer a way for a payload to return safely to Earth. Join a hands-on workshop at the Newton Free Library in Druker Auditorium on Thursday, April 24th at 2:00 pm that explores the science behind rockets and space exploration. Use your imagination to plan, build, and test your own design. Please be advised that this workshop uses latex balloons. Presented by the Museum of Science and open to grades 6-12. Thor: The Dark World Movie Screening
Teens are invited to watch a screening of Thor: The Dark World on Friday, April 25th at 3:00 pm. Thor returns to do battle in this big-budget comic-book adventure. Rated PG-13, runtime 112 min. Open to ages 13 and up.

Mini-Creator Faire
On April 26th from 1:00-4:00 pm, the Newton Free Library will be hosting a mini-Creator Faire in Druker Auditorium to kick off the unveiling of the new MakerBot 3D printer to the community and begin a year of programming for all ages related to the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) initiative from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Science Foundation. Magic and Music at Boston’s Symphony Hall

“Bon Voyage”, a special concert for families of all ages featuring music and magic from around the world. The concert features Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra’s talented young musicians and “Matt the Magician”.

See objects magically appear, pass through each other, and transform before your very eyes, while your ears enjoy the talents of over 100 amazing young musicians. You even get a chance to conduct the orchestra right from your seat!
