February and April Break Camp

Now Enrolling For February, April, and Summer Break! All classes will be held at the studio in Wellesley Square, next to the Boloco!

Join the staff of Wellesley Theatre Project for a three-day workshop including a master class in Auditioning, Scene Study, and Musical Theatre. Students will leave with audition techniques, an understanding of how to approach a scene, and learn a dance to a musical theatre favorite. At the conclusion of the workshop, students will present their work in a “Shareformance”.

February Vacation activities

The Newton Parks & Recreation Department is offering family activities over February Vacation:

  • There is a family trip to Disney On Ice – Frozen on Monday February 16th.
  • Family movies days are planned on Feb 18th and 19th at West Newton Cinema featuring Paddington and Dolphin Tale 2.
  • The department is also hosting the “Greatest Family Bingo Night Ever” event on February 18th at Post 440, 295 California Street. Players can win Boston Celtics tickets, Red Sox tickets, ski passes, restaurant gift certificates and more. Doors open at 6:00 pm and concessions include $1 a slice Sicilian pizza and $1 for a build your own Cabot’s sundae. Bingo will run from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and includes 10 bingo games. Families and players can purchase 3 boards for $6.00 or 9 boards for $15.00. All proceeds benefit Newton Athletes Unlimited.

Short Film contest for High School students

During the week of February 15th – 22nd, NewTV will be holding a Short Film Challenge. Each team of students will receive guidelines for their film during a kickoff event at NewTV on February 15th. All work on the film will be done during that week, since they will not know the parameters until the kickoff event. The top three films will be screened at a special event in the NewTV screening room and they will be featured during the Newton Festival of the Arts in May. The first place team will receive an additional prize. Registration is open from now until February 14th. For more information and to register, contact joeg@newtv.org. This is a great opportunity for Newton high school students to express themselves, have fun, and produce something they can be proud of and include on they resumes when they apply to college.

JCC Kid’s Choice February School Vacation Program

From sports and swimming to arts, dance, cooking and rock climbing, kids have their choice of activities at the JCC Kid’s Choice February Vacation Program.  For boys and girls entering grades K-6 (and CITs in grades 7-9 at a reduced rate).

Special highlights include JCC Magic Ark performance of Toying with Science, field trip to Wheelock Family Theatre to see Pinocchio and Purim Carnival.

Held at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC, 333 Nahanton Street, Newton.  Monday-Friday, February 16th – 20th from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. Come for one day or as many as you would like. Everyone welcome.

MLK Day Basketball Clinic in Newton

A Martin Luther King Jr. Day school vacation basketball clinic for children in grades K-5 will be held on Monday, January 19th at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center. Children will develop dribbling, passing and shooting skills and be matched by similar age and ability. Participants in grades K-2 will engage in skills, drills and half-court scrimmages while grades 3-5 will work on tournament style play. Program is led by youth recreation specialist Peter Sylvester. Girls Basketball Clinic at Newton North, Dec. 27

The Newton North Girls Varsity Basketball team is hosting a clinic for girls, grades 4-8, on Saturday, Dec. 27, 3:00-4:45PM.

Join the varsity players and coaches for drills, skills work, dribbling, and game play.

Cost: $20 per player (add a sibling for only $5)

December Vacation is Right Around the Corner

Watertown’s Arsenal Center for the Arts has December Vacation covered!

Children can find inspiration in the works of famous artists, then make their own masterpiece in The Great Artists (Grades K-6) class on December 29th – 30th. Sign up for morning and/or afternoon classes as different projects are offered each time.

Try It! (Grades K-6) takes place on December 31st. This fun, one-day workshop gives kids a chance to try out a variety of media and learn new skills. Sign up for the morning and/or afternoon session as different projects are offered each time.

Girls’ Soccer Winter Clinic, Dec 29 – Jan 1

The Lady Eagles Soccer School Winter Clinic groups players by age and ability and the program is for girls at both the beginner and elite club level player, ages 6-14 years old.

Date: December 29th – January 1st
Time: 8:30 am- 2:30 pm (extended day available)
Location: Alumni Stadium Bubble at Boston College
Cost: $295 (3 day option, 29th-31st, $225)
