Fitness classes
Matt Wilson, NPS parent and fitness and nutrition (NSCA & Precision Nutrition) trainer offers the following “Bridge to April Break” Session – a 5 week session of fitness classes in Oak Hill Park.
•Beginner’s Exercise Group – Wednesday Nights at 7:00 pm to be held if at least 6 people sign up. It will be a low to no impact class that focuses on movement, range of motion and strength building. The ultimate goal of this class is to prepare you (whether over the course of one or several sessions) to eventually move up to more advanced classes. The pace will be slow, and you may not sweat a lot, but the idea is to make sure you learn proper movement and show you that you are indeed capable of much more than you may believe. This class will be intentionally the small for a great instructor to participant ration. (minimum of 6, maximum of 8 – $20.00 for drop ins, $75.00 for the 5 week session).
•Monday and/or Wednesday Morning Class – 9:00 am – this class will focus on a combination of cardio and strength building. It is a step up from the Beginner’s Group. Depending on the group make up, the focus will be on building up your cardio endurance while continuing to develop your core and overall strength. (minimum of 6, maximum of 12 – $20.00 for drop in, $75.00 for one day per week, $125.00 for 2 days per week).
•Monday and/or Thursday Night Boot Camp* – 7:00 pm – this class is the original – starting with a warm-up and a game, moving on to raising the heart rate, usually finishing with some core work. Any and all levels are happily accepted. (minimum of 5, maximum of 12 – $20.00 for drop in, $75.00 for one day per week, $125.00 for 2 days per week)
•Monday through Friday 6:00 am Morning Call – this class will require some dedication but is guaranteed to give you the best results. It is a 25 day session that involves a combination of strength, cardio and HIIT classes. (minimum of 8 people to commit to coming 5 mornings per week, maximum of 12 – $8.00 per class with a 5 day, 5 week commitment ($200.00) plus you need to purchase and bring a pair of 5 to 10 lbs dumbbells).
Below is a link to a Doodle Poll that will allow you to reserve a spot in the class or classes you would like. Once the minimum is reached on any of those classes, you can assume that the class will be held (starting next week). The Boot Camps* have already met their minimal requirements and will be held. Once the snow melts and class moves outside, the max on those two classes will be lifted. The other classes however will maintain their caps.

Reigning Cats and Dogs presented by Watertown Children’s Theatre
Come to the world premiere of Reigning Cats and Dogs presented by Watertown Children’s Theatre. Book by Steven Bergman and Amy White Graves, Music and Lyrics by Steven Bergman. Reigning Cats and Dogs is part of WCT’s initiative to support the growth of new works in children’s theatre.
Reigning Cats & Dogs is a new musical about acceptance, personal identity, friendship and loyalty. Chou-Chou has a problem: she’s a royal dog, but she’s always felt like a cat on the inside. Whether it’s a mouse infestation at the castle, or trying to get a performance slot at the Club Kit Kat, she wants everything to be “Purr-fect!” How can she and her feline friends make the kingdom an accepting society? A cast of K-6th graders including Newton residents Brandon Baskin, Maggie Brousal-Glaser, Alexandra Danis, Samuel Danis, Alexandra Giunta, Katherine Grabowski, Nisha Jha, Amir LaGasse, Alison McPherson, Caleb McPherson, Henry McPherson, Sadie Mulligan, Cliodhna O’Dwyer, Jacob Resnick, and Maya Ullman will sing, dance and perform and bring these cats, dogs, and mice to life!

CPR/ AED TRAINING
Anyone can learn CPR – and everyone should! Sadly, 70 percent of Americans may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they either do not know how to administer CPR or their training has significantly lapsed. This alarming statistic could hit close to home, because home is exactly where 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur. Put very simply: The life you save with CPR is mostly likely to be someone you love.
Don’t be afraid; your actions can only help. If you see an unresponsive adult who is not breathing or not breathing normally, call 911 and push hard and fast on the center of the chest.

Newton Kindergarten Soccer
Registration is still open for Newton Kindergarten Soccer. The spring program offers two divisions: the Kindergarten Division is for those children currently in kindergarten. The Pre-K Division is for children who will enter kindergarten in the Fall of 2015. Games are at Richardson Field and Zervas Elementary in Waban beginning April 11th. To be eligible, children must live or attend school in Newton. Register by March 15th to avoid the late fee.
Newton Kindergarten Soccer is an introduction to soccer with a focus on making friends, learning teamwork, and developing confidence. Each spring, over 200 incoming kindergarteners and 200 current kindergarteners throughout Newton play in the league. Players are grouped with other children who either live in the same neighborhood or will attend the same school for kindergarten, so that incoming kindergartners can meet future classmates.
