High School Student Intern Program

Apply now for summer 2015 High School Student Intern Program at Newton Community Farm! Newton Community Farm is now accepting applications for our high school student intern program!   Summer internships are unpaid opportunities for high school age youth to learn about organic and community farming in a fun, friendly environment.   No experience is necessary; just a desire to learn and work hard!

The minimum requirement for the internship is a two-week trial period (consecutive weeks) during July 7th through August 27th, three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm (short break at 10:00 am).   After the trial period and with the agreement of the Farm Manager, interns can increase the number of hours, days (including Friday and Saturday), and/or weeks at the farm. Go to www.newtoncommunityfarm.org for more information about the program and to download application forms (due at the Farm by May 31st).

Weston Drama Workshop seeks “Munchkins”

The Weston Drama Workshop is seeking rising 4th or 5th graders to play Munchkins in their summer production of The Wizard of Oz. Munchkins rehearse one evening per week starting mid-June and participate in all 5 performances between July 15 – July 26.

Auditions are Wednesday, April 8.

Sewing Camps are for all levels and abilities: Beginners just learning the “threads” or a seasoned sewist with fashion on the mind. With hundreds of project choices and fabrics galore, you’re sure to have a blast working alongside our friendly instructors.

April Break with Theatre Arts Camp

Spend your April vacation with the Wellesley Theatre Project! Join the WTP for a three-day workshop including a master class in Auditioning, Scene Study, and Musical Theatre.

April 22, 23 & 24
2nd- 5th Grade, 9am – Noon
6th-12th Grade, 1pm – 4pm

Students will leave with audition techniques, an understanding of how to approach a scene, and learn a dance to a musical theatre favorite. At the conclusion of the workshop, students will present their work in a “Shareformance”. Learn more and register at the Wellesley Theatre Project website.

Enrollment for the Winter 2016 “Guys and Dolls” with Newton Youth Players is now open! The sessions historically fill quickly, so sign up now if you want your child to be part of this popular theatre company for children in grades 2 – 5.

Rehearsals and performances take place at the Newton Cultural Center at City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Ave.

This popular musical tells the tale of Nathan Detroit, Sky Masterson, and their lovable entourage of gamblin’ guys and the dolls who love them in 1940’s New York City. Popular songs include Luck be a Lady, A Bushel and a Peck, and Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat.

There are three casts to choose from:
Tuesdays 3:30 – 5pm, 1/5/16 – 3/22/16;
Wednesdays 4 – 5:30pm 1/6/16 – 3/23/16
Thursday 3:30 – 5pm 1/7/16 – 3/24/16.

  • Center for Creative Arts (YCCA) Announces Open Auditions for Summer Sessions:
    Summer Sessions is an audition-based summer music program held at the West Suburban YMCA for young musicians. Led by YCCA staff, Kevin O’Connell and Jesse Trepiak, the four two-week sessions alternate between Songwriting & Recording and Music Video Production. Participants will build and improve upon the creative skills of songwriting, filming, audio engineering, video editing, production, and instrumental or vocal performance while creating a complete industry-relevant piece – an EP or music video.Summer Sessions will offer enrolled students the opportunity to form advanced skills that mold young musicians into experienced, successful artists. These projects foster abilities and work ethic that are not exclusive to the music industry, but can be applied to so many other careers and educational experiences.
