Newton Community Education is thrilled to announce that they are bringing back Newton Summer Stage, the popular summer theatre program for high schoolers (rising 9-12th graders). Hone your acting skills, train your singing voice, and learn exciting choreography as you rehearse the much-beloved musical Bye Bye Birdie. An experienced team will guide you through five weeks of rehearsals, culminating in two fully-produced performances.
In addition to working on the fundamentals of musical theatre, you’ll also explore other aspects of a theatrical production including design, construction, publicity, and more. No previous experience necessary! Newton Summer Stage will be led by Newton North teachers Dan Fabrizio, Director; Chris Roppola, Music Director; and Brad Jensen, Choreographer. Do you know a rising 5th through 10th grade student looking for an adventure worth writing about? At Summer Ink, campers engage in exciting arts and sports activities, take field trips throughout Boston – and write about their experiences. Whether your student relishes writing or struggles to find the right words, Summer Ink works.

Plugged In’s Music That Matters Summer Day Camp is for kids ages 11-18 and includes band class, songwriting, recording a song for a CD, music video, workshops, offsite events, and performance opportunities. Each session ends with a benefit concert that raises money for a charitable organization chosen by the students themselves. Plugged In provides a nurturing and supportive community to which young musicians feel a sense of belonging, an opportunity to express and be acknowledged for their musical interests and a chance to use their music to help others around the world.

Please extend your support for the Jennifer Price Global Education Leadership Fund (GELF)’s annual benefit dinner. For those of you who don’t know about the GELF, it’s a fantastic scholarship program that supports Newton students in taking advantage of international opportunities. Most of these students come from low-income families and wouldn’t otherwise be able to take advantage of the many extraordinary global learning programs offered through Newton North and South.
Students who return from abroad speak often about the pivotal role these experiences have played in their personal and academic lives. Please help GELF continue to convince our students that no one should tune out when international learning opportunities are announced!
On Saturday, April 2nd, GELF will hold its annual dinner/fundraiser from 6:30 – 10:30 pm at Newton North High School. The evening is a not-to-be-missed community event, featuring an amazing 5-course gourmet meal (cooked from scratch on-site!!), paired fine beers & wines (featuring Sam Adams beer pairings, a major hit last year!), dancing (with a great live band featuring our own Katani Sumner), 150 like-minded community members, table service by Newton administrators, and a live auction.
