Northeaster Univ. Soccer Clinics, Camps

The Northeastern University soccer program offers a dynamic program of clinics and camps, which focuses on learning through fun games and small-sided play. Co-ed groups will experience our Future Huskies philosophy of promoting fundamental skills and sportsmanship. Upcoming programs include:

  • Elite Winter Prospect Clinic, Feb. 23-24
  • Spring Vacation Camp, April 15-18
  • Summer Youth Camps, June 17-21 and 24-28

Players are grouped both by age and by skill level so that each child is challenged, but not overwhelmed. Our goal is to provide a positive learning environment for all participants, from beginners to the advanced.

For dates, details, and additional information, please visit the  Husky Soccer Camps website.

Join Project Bread’s Walk For Hunger – Sunday, May 5

Do you want to help feed hungry people in Massachusetts? Food insecurity is a very real problem – over 750,000 people (many of them children and elders) experienced some kind of hunger in Massachusetts last year. Project Bread works with 430 community food programs to provide more than 61 millions meals a year to hungry people. Project Bread is also working to improve the quality and sustainability of Massachusetts food programs, especially in schools, so that a healthy and nutritious lifestyle can be available to everyone. Because Project Bread believes that the opposite of hungry isn’t full, it’s healthy.

But what can you do? You have the ability to change the world, just by taking a few steps. Visit www.projectbread.org/walk to get more information, register an individual or a team of walkers, or sign up to volunteer. Join over 40,000 people on Sunday, May 5 as we walk 20 miles around Boston, raising almost $4 million to help feed hungry people throughout Massachusetts. We can’t do it without you!

Just Think – Teens Making Smart Choices

On January 29, 2013, the PTSO and Newton North hosted an expo called "Just Think: Teens Making Smart Choices." Over 20 organizations and 30+ community exhibitors set up booths during the day and the evening so teens and families could gather valuable information about everything from driving and pedestrian safety to healthy eating, positive body image to stress reduction and mental health support.

“Talking to our teenagers about making smart choices is so important as they navigate the challenges of being a teenager in 2013,” said Newton North Principal Jen Price in a letter inviting community members to attend. “This is our attempt to stimulate these critical conversations.”

Effective Strategies To Reduce Anxiety In Children

Workshop will teach participants about classroom and home interventions for children (in preschool through Grade 8) with anxiety and related behaviors. Rather than respond with punishment- and reward-based consequences, it is important for adults to understand children’s challenges and teach them how to cope. This will allow children to improve their behavior by acquiring the necessary skills to make progress.

Presenter: Jessica Minahan, M.Ed, BCBA is a board certified behavior analyst, special educator and co-author of The Behavior Code:  A Practical Guide to Understanding and Teaching the Most Challenging Students, with Nancy Rappaport (www.jessicaminahan.com).
