An intellectual treat: To emphasize a commitment to scholarship, the principal and North’s PTSO are sponsoring a series of lectures by faculty and community members on a wide-ranging variety of topics of interest to all. The series encourages faculty and parents to get to know one another in an intellectual and professional setting.

All are cordially invited to attend: The Achievement Gap – Another View

Dr. Price’s* doctoral dissertation entitled, “Sharing Students’ Background: Does it Make a Difference”, focused on the achievement of students from low income families. She investigated whether sharing the low income status of students with their teachers made a difference. She found that this simple, yet slightly controversial, intervention had a statistically positive impact on multiple measures of student achievement. Dr. Price will share the findings of her work and discuss the implications this analysis had on Newton North, and the potential impact her research might have on a larger scale.
