HISTORIC NEWTON BOOK CLUB MEETING
Thursday, January 31, 7:30 PM
This month’s book club selection is Stayin’ Alive: The 1970′s and the
Last Days of the Working Class by Jefferson Cowie. The author has written a wide ranging political, cultural and economic history which examines the 1970′s as a crucial, pivotal era that transitioned America from the New Deal (with its large, optimistic middle class) to the dampened expectations of the 1980′s and into the present. Cowie captures nothing less than the defining characteristics of the 70′s decade. The book club is free and open to the public. New members are always welcome.
For more information about these and many other offerings, visit the Historic Newton website.
